I'm not entirely sure where they're coming from but about once a week at about 2 A.M. I'll find a moth fluttering drunkenly around my computer. My guess is that they're coming in from the attic through the light fixture holes we haven't filled yet but Seth thinks it unlikely. Anyways, just realized that it's been over two months since I posted anything on here. I did put a few posts up on our blog but I should have cross posted them to here.
This last month has been fun. First we had six trees taken down in the back yard--was supposed to be four, then we noticed another one, and then we found out the sixth one was rotting from the inside out even though it looked mostly okay. That one made me sad since I was hoping it at least would help to fill in the gap once the other trees were removed. As it is, we now have a nice view of our neighbors yard. :-/ We're probably going to plant a few trees to help fill it in sometime.
After the tree removal, we got to hire a contractor to help fix the drainage problems out front. Someone thought it would be a great idea to grade the road so it slopes towards our house and then our driveway is all downhill so the water runs down it very nicely and then backs up in the little drain we've got and goes right up into the garage and then the house. We figure we'd like to cut out those last few steps and stop it at the drain so we had the contractor put in a berm across the top of the driveway, and then a french drain that runs alongside the road to catch any other runoff. The drain came out pretty nice, the berm not so much. They came back and fixed it but it's still not quite what I thought we were trying to get. Seth thinks it is so at least once of us was picturing the right thing, lol. I think it will do a nice job keeping the water out of the driveway, it's just a little more of a bump to drive over than I was hoping for.
Seth's been working nights for about the last month and half or so and is excited to be on his final week of it. Working nights tends to make for rather odd schedules for both of us. He's supposed to be starting STE School soon which sounds like it's going to be all kinds of fun (note the sarcasm there) but at least he'll be on a semi-normal schedule for it. I've been having fun tutoring a girl from the local community college and trying to remember exactly what the rules are for imaginary numbers and how to factor quadratics and so on. It's interesting to see what my brain remembers and what it doesn't. I'm not even sure that I learned some of what I've been working on with her but so far I think it's going pretty well.:)
Halloween was an exciting night for us. 1) We finally put some pictures up on the walls, yay! 2) We got a TON of trick-or-treaters. One of our neighbors had warned us that she'd counted nearly 300 kids last year, but even being warned didn't really prepare us, lol. 3) We discovered that while we're actually liking our split level house, it is _definitely_ not suited to Halloween. Running up and down the stairs every three minutes gets old really fast.
All in all, we're doing pretty well. :)
