Christmas tree discoveries

After Thanksgiving it's only natural that Seth and I started thinking about Christmas and getting a tree. (After all, Christmas just isn't the same if you don't spend the month before it pulling pine needles out of your socks.) We soon realized however that the tree would need decorations that we didn't have, so after a lot of long hard work googling "homemade ornaments" we decided that it'd be fun and easy to make our own. Ha.

To be fair, some of them were easy enough--once we tracked down the materials. We had to go through three separate stores just to find pipecleaners and beads. And those were the easy ones. The real challenge was the Jolly Rancher ornaments.

According to the webpage, these were a nice simple project that kids could do (I'm pretty sure that that's a lie.) Oh yes, and they also said that Jolly Ranchers were the best kind of candy to use. I know now that that's a lie too. The basic idea is pretty simple. You take a cookie cutter, place tin foil inside of it to fit the shape of the cutter, fill it with candy, melt it down, cut a hole, let it cool and BAM! You've got a candy ornament!

To be fair the candy did melt easily like they said, and cut holes out for the ribbon to go through wasn't too bad either. The rest of it however . . . Let me just say I'm still not sure if the end result was worth all the tribulations. Especially since the ornaments that we did manage to make are now melting on the tree. They do look pretty cool though. And I'm sure we'll remember them for years to come so they get a few points for that too. :D
